Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Specialized Learning Support

I provide individualized, evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading. As a graduate of the University of Florida’s Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia, I use the UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) Foundations framework as the backbone of my intervention approach. This structured, systematic methodology supports the development of strong skills in phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, and fluency.

In addition to my UFLI training, I have pursued extensive professional development to better support learners across a wide range of ages and needs. I have completed IMSE Morphology Plus training, which is particularly valuable for older students who benefit from deeper word study and vocabulary development. I am also trained in The Writing Revolution 2.0 and the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), both of which strengthen students’ writing, language organization, and reading comprehension.

My experience also includes training in programs such as Read Naturally, as well as specialized preparation in teletherapy through Lexercise. I am a certified provider on the Lexercise Structured Literacy Platform, allowing me to deliver effective, engaging online instruction.

Many students with dyslexia also experience challenges with math, including characteristics associated with dyscalculia. In response to the needs of the students and families I serve, I have completed the “Dyscalculia for Dyslexia Tutors” training through the Dyscalculia Training Center. This training allows me to provide thoughtful, high-quality supplemental math support for students who benefit from a structured, explicit approach to both literacy and numeracy. While my primary focus remains literacy instruction, I am able to integrate targeted math support when appropriate, helping students build confidence and strengthen foundational skills across both areas.

Through my accumulated training and demonstrated expertise, I have earned the designation of Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Specialist from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), reflecting my commitment to using high-quality, research-aligned practices to support students with dyslexia and related learning differences.

In addition to my specialized training, I bring over 15 years of experience as a certified teacher in the state of Connecticut. This background allows me to combine deep instructional knowledge with practical classroom experience.

I also hold a master’s degree in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Giftedness, Creativity, and Talent Development, and have served as a Gifted and Talented Program Coordinator. This background provides me with a unique lens for supporting twice-exceptional (2e) students—those who are both gifted and dyslexic. I understand the complex profiles of these learners, including how advanced reasoning and creativity can coexist with challenges in reading and writing. My approach ensures that instruction both remediates areas of difficulty while also nurturing students’ strengths, helping them build confidence and fully develop their potential.

While UFLI serves as the foundation of my instruction, I take an integrative approach—drawing from all of my training to design customized learning plans tailored to each student’s unique strengths and needs. Each lesson is carefully structured to promote progress, build confidence, and support long-term literacy success.

For Schools

In addition to providing individualized structured literacy support for students, I offer consultation services for schools looking to enhance their structured literacy practices. I provide professional development for staff on topics such as dyslexia, the science of reading, and effective literacy instruction. I also support schools in the implementation of the UFLI Foundations curriculum.
